Start with the route and users

Show us the beginning and end of the route, changes in level and places where people currently walk. Let us know how you carry groceries, move equipment or use the property with guests. Width, landings, turns and surface choice should follow the intended use rather than a photograph alone.

 

Review grades, drainage and materials

A site assessment helps establish preparation, the height changes to address and where water moves through the area. Materials, edge treatment and connections to existing patios or entrances are discussed together. Handrails, guarding or other construction requirements must be identified where relevant to the project.

 

Account for delivery and installation access

Photographs of slopes, gates and narrow routes help us understand how materials and equipment can reach the work. Existing trees, planting and nearby services should be identified before excavation. The quote should distinguish removal, base preparation, step or path installation and cleanup.
