Landscape excavation and site preparation

Site preparation should support a clear landscape plan. Cottage Contracting reviews excavation and preparation associated with patios, paths, garden areas and other defined landscape work. We establish the proposed work area, site access and project limits before confirming equipment or an installation schedule.

Define what the site needs to become

Send a sketch or photographs showing existing conditions and the intended finished use. Preparation for a walkway is different from reshaping a larger yard. Discuss removal, excavation, base preparation and grading as separate tasks, along with connections to existing surfaces and the intended movement of water.

Review access and buried services

Identify gates, overhead restrictions, narrow passages, structures and places where equipment could be staged. Locates and information about private services must be addressed before ground disturbance. Machine size, working area and excavation limits are confirmed through the project review, not assumed from a general equipment list.

Plan material handling

Tell us about existing fill, rocks, roots or debris you are aware of. The quote should identify material to be retained, imported or removed, along with hauling and disposal responsibilities. Unexpected ground conditions may change the agreed work and should be reviewed before extra work proceeds.

Keep the scope specific

This landscape service does not imply septic installation, blasting, utility work or foundation engineering. If the project depends on specialist design, approvals or another trade, those responsibilities need to be defined. For a broader landscape project with an anticipated investment of $10,000 or more, send your property, scope and timing through the landscape inquiry.
