Garages, bunkies and conversions

A new outbuilding and the conversion of an existing garage begin with different questions. Cottage Contracting reviews garage, bunkie and conversion inquiries as construction projects. Tell us what already exists, how you want to use the space and whether the goal is storage, a workshop or another proposed use.

Separate new construction from conversion

For a new building, show the proposed location, access and any concept drawings. For a conversion, include current interior and exterior photographs, approximate dimensions and known building information. Existing foundations, structure, moisture conditions and services may affect what can be retained and what requires further assessment.

Resolve intended use and approvals

A change in use can affect design, servicing and approval requirements. The project review should identify which drawings, municipal discussions, permits and specialist contributions are needed. Do not assume that an accessory building can be used as living or sleeping accommodation without the necessary review.

Build a complete scope

Discuss exterior finishes, doors, windows, insulation and interior finish expectations, along with any electrical, plumbing or heating needs. The quote should define crew and trade responsibilities. Site preparation, access, material delivery and work on the existing property also belong in the plan.

Start a construction conversation

Send the location, a description of the proposed use, photos or drawings, anticipated budget and timing through the construction inquiry. We will review fit and next steps. Browse the project gallery for broader examples of our work; project photos should be read with their actual scope and completion status.
